Louver Guide & FAQs
What the louvers section covers
In the trade, "louver" gets used for two different things, and this section holds both. 2,400+ listings are louvers in the strict sense: long fluted or ribbed strips fixed side by side. Another 5,400+ are decorative wall panels, flatter sheets that cover a wall in fewer pieces, and there are smaller groups of translucent panels, exterior panels, 3D tiles and PU stone.
By shape, there are 4,700+ narrow strips, 1,100+ planks about a foot wide, 2,000+ sheets 2 ft wide, 500+ full 8x4 sheets and 150+ square tiles. Most pieces are 8 ft long (5,900+); 2,200+ come in 9 to 10 ft lengths. The usual strip is 12 mm thick and the usual 2 ft sheet 4 mm.
Where the core is listed, charcoal leads (3,000+), then MDF (1,000+) and PVC (700+), with smaller runs of stone powder, acrylic and WPC. The largest single brand is Euro Pratik, with 2,400+ designs.
How to pick a louver design
Start with the room, then the core
MDF is dense and feels solid on the wall, but it swells if water gets at it, so keep it to dry rooms. Charcoal, PVC and WPC cope with humidity far better and are the ones to use on kitchen walls, utility areas and in flats that stay humid through the monsoon, as long as they are kept clear of the hob. Outside, use only designs listed for outdoor use; 1,100+ are.
Strips or sheets
Strips give a wall real depth, because every flute throws a shadow. They take longer to fix, and any bow in the wall shows in the shadow lines. Sheets cover a wall fast and carry printed stone and patterns better, but thin sheets need a flat wall too. Behind a TV or a bed, strips; across a full living room wall or a shop front, sheets usually make more sense.
Look and colour
Wood looks lead (2,800+), then designer patterns (2,200+), marble and stone (1,500+) and plain colours. Brown is the biggest colour by far (3,500+), then grey, white and beige. A warm wood louver against a plain wall is the safe choice for a TV wall; stone and patterned panels make a stronger statement in a foyer.
Length and quantity
Measure floor to false ceiling first. Under 8 ft, standard lengths work. Above that, a 9 to 10 ft piece saves a horizontal joint. For strips, divide the wall width by the covered width of one strip and add two or three for cuts. For sheets, divide the wall area by 16 sq ft (8x2) or 32 sq ft (8x4) and add about 10 percent.
Where louvers get used
Most designs carry several room tags, so these counts overlap: 8,200+ are tagged for living rooms, 7,700+ for bedrooms and 8,000+ for offices. 1,400+ are tagged for feature walls and 1,900+ for ceilings. At home, the usual spots are the TV wall, the wall behind the bed, the entrance foyer and a column you want to dress up. To shop by room, see living room wall panels and bedroom wall panels; for outside walls, exterior cladding.
Louver FAQs
What is a louver?
In interiors, a louver is a long strip with grooves or ribs, fixed side by side on a wall or ceiling to give it rhythm and shadow. The word comes from slatted window shutters, but the decorative louvers here are solid strips and panels, not vents.
Is a louver the same as a wall panel?
Not quite. A louver is a strip with grooves or ribs, fixed in a row. A wall panel is a wider sheet, flat, textured or printed. We list both here because they do the same job on a wall.
Charcoal, MDF, PVC or WPC: which is best?
In a dry bedroom all of them hold up. The difference is moisture: MDF is the one to keep away from water; charcoal, PVC and WPC cope with humidity better. For the strongest feel on the wall, MDF and charcoal strips; for humid rooms, charcoal, PVC or WPC; for walls near water, PVC.
Can louvers be used on an exterior wall?
Only designs listed for outdoor use, which are mostly charcoal, stone powder and PVC panels. Even those need a covered or shaded wall, sealed edges and fixings meant for outdoor work. Indoor-only louvers should stay inside.
Can louvers go on the ceiling?
Yes, on a proper ceiling frame. Ask the carpenter to screw them into the frame rather than rely on adhesive alone overhead.
How are louvers fixed to the wall?
Strips are usually fixed with panel adhesive plus small nails or clips, onto a flat wall or onto a wooden or metal batten frame where the wall is uneven. Sheets go on with adhesive over a clean, level surface. Finish the ends with matching trims or beading.
How many louvers do I need for a wall?
Divide the wall width by the covered width of one strip (the width listed minus any overlap) and add two or three spare for cuts. A 10 ft wide wall with 0.4 ft strips needs about 25, plus spares. For sheets, divide the wall area by the sheet area and add about 10 percent.
Can I use louvers in a kitchen or bathroom?
In a kitchen, yes, on walls away from the hob, in charcoal, PVC or WPC. In a bathroom, only on dry walls outside the shower area. Fix the source of any seepage before cladding a damp wall; no panel cures it.
Which louver design suits a TV wall?
Vertical wood strips in a mid brown are the safe, warm choice, and they hide cable channels well. For a modern look, try grey or black strips with a strip light in the false ceiling above. Keep one feature wall and leave the others plain.
What is the price of louvers?
Each design shows its own price on its page, GST included, for the size listed. Check whether that price is per strip or per sheet, then multiply by your count. For a full wall or a big order, ask the store for a quote.
Narrow it down
Browse by core: charcoal louvers, MDF louvers, PVC louvers or WPC panels and louvers. By look, start with wood louvers or fluted louvers; by colour, brown or grey louvers; by size, 8x2 ft panels. For stone and textured wall cladding, see wall panels.
Want to touch before you buy? Ask to see louver samples at our Choolai or OMR store in Chennai, and call ahead if you have a particular design in mind.
