What the black laminate range holds
1,300+ designs. The biggest group is black marble and stone (400+), then plain blacks (300+) and dark woods (300+), almost level with each other, then designer patterns (100+).
Texture is the most common finish (500+), then high gloss (300+) and suede (150+). Counting high gloss and gloss together, 400+ blacks have a shiny face. Thickness: 1 mm (850+) and 0.8 mm (200+), with a few 1.25 and 1.5 mm. Among named brands, Stylam (100+), Virgo (75+) and Advance Laminates (75+) carry the most, with Newmika and Airolam also in the mix.
Choosing a black laminate
Gloss black shows everything
High gloss black is striking on a kitchen or wardrobe, and it shows every fingerprint, water spot and fine scratch. If the shutters are handled daily, choose a textured or suede black, or keep gloss for the upper cabinets and use texture below.
Black marble: where it works
Black marble designs are at their best on large, flat faces: a TV back panel, a kitchen island front, a bar unit. On small drawer fronts the veins get chopped into pieces. Line up the veins across neighbouring shutters when you cut.
Edges and handles
Ask for black edge banding; a light edge on a black shutter looks unfinished. Black works with brass, gold or steel handles, and with handle-less profiles.
Light the room for it
A black kitchen needs more light than a white one. Plan under-cabinet lights so the counter isn't in shadow.
Where black laminates are used
Kitchens lead the furniture tags (1,000+ designs), then wardrobes (600+) and TV units (300+); designs carry several tags, so these overlap. Black also suits bar units, study tables and office reception counters. In a bedroom, a black wardrobe works best with light walls and a light floor.
Black laminate FAQs
Black or dark grey for a kitchen?
Black is bolder and needs more cleaning. A deep charcoal grey gives a similar look and forgives more dust and fingerprints.
How do I clean black gloss laminate?
A soft damp cloth with a drop of mild soap, then dry with microfibre. Avoid scrubbers and abrasive powders, which dull the gloss.
0.8 mm or 1 mm in black?
1 mm for shutters and counters. Knocks and dents catch the light on a dark sheet, and the thicker sheet takes them better.

Browse every colour in our laminate sheets range. Softer options are in grey laminates. Marble in every colour is in marble and stone laminates, and the shiny end in high gloss laminates. For a matching wall, see black louvers.
Black looks different under every light. Compare gloss, suede and texture blacks at our Choolai or OMR store in Chennai; ask to see samples, and call ahead for a specific design.
